Purchasing Vintage Tools From BJL

Purchasing Tools

I do not have a direct checkout system through the website. Please contact my by email through the "Contact Me" link to the left of each page or my cell phone number at the top. We can discuss any questions you may have about a particular tool or recommendations. There are some size differences between more modern familiar tools and the older tools. In most cases there are more choices of styles with the older tools as well. This discussion will help to ensure that you get the most suitable tool for your needs.

Payment Methods Accepted

For payment methods I can accept payment through either PayPal or by credit/debit card. For PayPal payments it is easier for my bookkeeping to email a PayPal invoice than for you to directly send the payment prior to receiving an invoice. I just need to know the email address you use for PayPal. For credit and debit card purchases I need to take those numbers directly so I would need a phone number and good time to call for that information. In some cases I am able to accept a postal money order or check, but may not be able to ship right away until that payment clears.

Shipping Methods

I mostly ship through the United States Postal Service and use the priority mail options whenever possible. In nearly every case this has proven to be the least expensive, fastest, and most reliable method to safely get most tools to you. It is definitely my method of choice for internationl shipping. Some of the heavier bench machines ship less expensively and seem to travel better through UPS and I utilize them for that.

I am occasionally asked to ship tools in an envelope or something else less expensive than the priority mail box. Unfortunately many of these tools vary in thickness or have parts that stick out. They can get caught in the postal sorting machinery and lost or damaged in shipment packed in anything other than a box. I have that happen with tools being shipped to me, and do not want to have it happen to you. Boxes contain tools better in most cases. I take care in how I pack my tools and want them to arrive ready to use and enjoy.

Do you ship internationally?

I ship several packages per month internationally. These are shipped by either Priority Mail or Express Mail. Any lesser expensive methods tend to have extended shipping times. Be aware there may be customs delays and charges that I have no control over.

Can you ship to my country?

In most cases, I can ship your tool to almost anywhere in the world. Let me know where you are located in your email or when you call and I can let you know if I can ship there.

Can I special order tools that you might not currently have In stock?

Sure! Give me a call or send me an email with what it is you are looking for and I'll keep an eye open for you. If it's not something I normally deal in, I'll try and point you in the right direction.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I can accept payment through either PayPal or by credit/debit card. For PayPal payments it is easier for my bookkeeping for me to email a PayPal invoice. I would just need to know the email address you use for PayPal. For credit and debit card purchases I can take those numbers directly and also have the ability to email an invoice through my credit card processing service with a secure link for card payments as well.

What is your return policy?

I am quite liberal with my return policy. One reason I like to discuss tools before purchasing is to make sure that we are selecting a suitable size and type of tool to fit your needs. Most of what I sell are older vintage tools. They may have cosmetic signs of use and age but are unconditionally warranted to be 100% functional for their intended use. Tools may be returned for a refund or exchange.

Do you offer resharpening for cutting tools?

I do resharpen cutting tools for customers. Most tools can have your edges maintained with regular stropping and light work on sharpening media to restore the edge. If you purchase tools from me I will resharpen any purchases at no cost except for return shipping and most of your other tools for a nominal cost plus the return shipping.

I have tools to sell. Do you buy tools?

YES I do! A good percentage of the tools I sell are purchased privately. I buy anything from a single tool up to estate sets and shop retirements. Oftentimes I can make offers based on pictures sent by email. If you have tools to sell please contact me and I can give you the email address directly that allows attachments. What I can offer depends on the type and number of tools, their condition, and whether I have a large back inventory or not. I do buy hand-operated bench machines but generally do not buy anything with a motor such as heavy stitchers.
