New - Horse Shoe Brand Tools

We are now carrying more new tools From Jeremiah and Colleen Watt at Horse Shoe Brand Tools. Most of these are based on tried and true vintage tool designs that are no longer made except by Horse Shoe Brand Tools.

Scratch Compass/Stitch Groover Compass/Saddler Groover

No matter what you learned to call it, we now have these groovers in stock. They come with the original style blade. In addition the we have small, medium, and large groover tips that fit this as well for smaller size thread.

Free Hand Stitch Groover

Also known as a patent leather tool or gum tool, this is a free hand stitch groover. It is handy for making stitching grooves free hand, like the "gunslinger stitch pattern" on belts. If you have seen me mention this tool on podcasts or in forums, these are great for removing old stitches like relining saddle skirts. You run this tool over the  stitches to cut the top stitches or severely weaken them. When you pull the woolskin off it pulls the remainder of the topstitches out by the locks with very few tags left to pick. The old vintage ones are getting harder to find and this is the size and style that works great for that!

Horse Shoe Brand Tools  Hammers

These are a nice using French style hammer with a smooth and generous width cross peen for setting folds. The face is polished smooth and a generous size for setting glued areas, smoothing, and rubbing as well as tapping. The engraving pattern is just an added bonus to class up the bench!

The tack hammers feature a smooth cross peen and plenty of length to get up under those Cheyenne rolls and set the bottom of the cover. These have a really nice balance and swing that is comfortable to use. Pretty hammers that work well!

After a few requests and then a recommendation from my friend Kelly Hauser we are stocking the shoe hammer. I've got to say, I really like the heel on this hammer as well as the balance. The heel has enough "straight" to set folds like the bottom of Cheyenne rolls or saddle swell breaks plus just enough "curve" to reach up under there. That is just one place, this hammer a really nice design and pattern for a lot of general leather work.

Cantle Pliers

We are now stocking the Horse Shoe Brand Cantle Pliers. These are the cantle pliers with the dropped handle design. It makes them handy for some of those Cheyenne rolls with a sharp break. The tips are smooth and slightly concave.

#4 Overstitcher

Bruce, who uses a #4 overstitcher? The quiet answer is quite a few people. I have been grinding every other tooth off from #8 overstitchers by request for a while but am always running out of the #8s. These #4 overstitchers obviously are a big stitch length but...there are places it shines. The most common is saddle makers. The #4 is right at home for stitching down pocketed bars and riggings to skirts. Plenty of hold without the perforated postage-stamp effect of finer stitches. The other common place is the old school buckstitching for those who are using a large thonging awl for their holes. To answer these demands we are now stocking the #4 overstitcher.

Horse Shoe Brand Tools Straight Knife

We are stocking the straight knife now also. This is another handy knife, and don't let the affordable price throw you off. There is plenty of spine and rigidity for durability and a nice shape for precise trimming. Every time I  get one of these knives used and list it for sale, they sell immediately. Now we've got them new and in stock!

Edger Sharpening Plate

The ridges on this plate are the correct profile to sharpen nearly every round back edger on your bench - Gomph and CS Osborne round back edgers, Tandy edgers, bissonette edgers, round back French edgers, Vizzard edgers, and everything I've thrown at it. Simply choose a ridge to match the profile of your edger, lay the abrasive media over that and draw back with your edger the sharpen the edge. Follow with a light buffing or stropping on top and bottom to remove the burr on top, polish the edge and you are ready to go. They are a generous  5x5 inch size for a good stroke and can be screwed down to a board or bench. They come with samples sizes of three grits of fine abrasive paper to get you started.
