I am leading a class at the Las Vegas Leather Trade Show sponsored by Illume Magazine on Jan 7, 2026. . The class will be a discussion on purchasing secondhand tools. Buying Secondhand Leather Tools – Class Outline

*Why to buy - economics and availability
*Where to look – locally, when traveling, online, events
*Identifying leather tools (old, new, common, uncommon) and an extensive list of resources
   for handled tools, stamps, bench machines
*Evaluating condition and looking for common defects - Usable/fixable/not fixable
*Overview of how to recondition and maintain tools - the estimated time and effort spent on refurbishing tools needs to be figured in to their value to you. We will discuss refurbishing and tips to make it easier. Learn some easy tips to help maintain your tools. 
*Establish a value of specific tool or sets specifically for your needs and situation
*Making an offer or accepting a seller’s price – considerations and negotiations
*Common red flags with sellers - minimize the chances to get scammed
*Special event -This is where it all comes together. We will have a special guest to wrap it up with a group event that will be a blast.

Materials – full notes will be provided but bring a pad and pen. Please bring any tools that you have questions on, would like to have evaluated, or just want to share. We like tools!
